Fair Trade

The DME method has been developed by Kokonut Pacific. The company has always applied fair trade principles in its oil extraction process. Right now no criteria are stipulated for the fair trade of coconuts so, strictly speaking, no one trading any coconut products can claim internationally recognised fair trade status for this commodity.

Kokonut Pacific has proactively implemented the principles of fair trade, which are aimed at making sure that primary producers in developing countries get a fair deal through:
  1. Fair prices for their goods (higher than the world market prices)
  2. Long term contracts to provide security for them and their families
  3. Support and sharing of knowledge and skills in order to develop their business and trade in the global economy successfully.

The DME method is helping to improve the standard of living and increasing income for local people. This also promotes protection of the fragile, tropical environment.

The introduction of the DME method in three of the Salomon Islands has had a great impact on these remote communities and has created income and work for the people.
