Hibiscus

The Hibiscus is native to warm, tropical regions and some of the plants in the species are also a source of food, fibre and medicine. Hibiscus tea is caffeine free and has a pleasant fragrance with a unique and delicious taste.

Because of its splendour, Hibiscus flowers have been found on Chinese porcelain plates and silk tapestries. In Jamaica, where it grows in abundance, it is known as shoe flower because the petals can be used to polish shoes.
This native Hawaiian species is especially known for its fragrance.

Although the soft scent of hibiscus is nowhere near the magnitude of roses it is still pleasingly light and fruity.
Hibiscus shrubs are tropical shrubs with large, showy flowers in various colours.

Also the state flower of Hawaii, it is here where young ladies decorate their hair with these flowers – a red hibiscus behind her left ear means that she is looking for a lover and behind her right means she is taken!
