During a stay in Fiji, Birgit Lahme, founder of Pacific Spirit, discovered the fascinating pristine beauty of the islands but also became aware of the difficult living and working conditions of the local people. Unemployment is high and the minimum wage is hardly enough to get by on. Family members support each other and many of them produce traditional handicrafts, including Tapa (printed Mulberry tree fabric) and handbags made from palm leaves etc. These handicrafts are typical of the Pacific area.
For the first time, she learned about the benefits of pure coconut oils, often scented with exotic flowers like tiare or frangipani. The coconut oil has been used by Pacific Islanders for generations in their daily beauty care routine.
After returning to Europe, Birgit tried to buy the exotically fragranced, coconut oil that she had discovered in Fiji. She found it to be exceptionally difficult and it was then that she decided to establish her company, Pacific Spirit and to promote the benefits of coconut oil in Europe and help the people in the Pacific region.
All her products are based on coconut oil from the Pacific obtained using the Direct Micro Expelling (DME) method. Birgit favours and supports this method that creates pure virgin coconut oil in its purest form and also supports fair trade.
The oil and the lotion of Pacific Spirit are enriched with exotic fragrances in Frangipani, Tiare and Hibiscus. Although we have chosen to use fragrances that smell gorgeous but contain no therapeutic value, over essential oils, they do not change the pure and natural value of our coconut oil.
Birgit's desire is to make these luxurious coconut oil products and exotic accessories available to as many people as possible while simultaneously helping the people of the South Pacific.
Her philosophy is, "In a world like today full of trouble, injustice and poverty, it is the duty of everyone to help as much as possible, especially when you are privileged to be born in a rich country. I want to help the people in the South Pacific because of my ties to Fiji and I wish to do this through Pacific Spirit."
At the moment the range of Pacific Spirit includes 125ml Extra Virgin Coconut oil. Also available are 250 ml body lotions, scented palm wax candles, unique accessories and coconut jewellery. The cosmetic products are available in Pure Coconut, Tiare, Hibiscus and Frangipani.
